Early Life:

John Winston Lennon was born in Liverpool, Merseyside, England, on October 9, 1940, during a German airstrike during World War II. Lennon’s parents divorced when he was four years old, and his Aunt Mimi raised him. A commercial seaman was John Lennon’s father. He was not present during his son’s birth, and he didn’t spend much time with him as a child.

He and Mimi had frequent visits from Julia Lennon, his mother, who remarried but continued to see him and Mimi. He learned to play the banjo and piano from her, and she got him his first guitar. Lennon was devastated when Julia was murdered in a vehicle accident in July 1958 by an off-duty police officer. One of the most devastating incidents in his life was her death.
