Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to alcohol and drug abuse but had a successful solo career, releasing 12 studio albums, the first seven of which achieved multi-platinum status in the United States. Osbourne was born in Marston Green Maternity Hospital in the Coleshill suburb of Birmingham but grew up in the Aston neighborhood. Lilian (née Unitt; 1916–2001) was a non-practicing Catholic who worked in a factory during the day. As a toolmaker, John Thomas “Jack” Osbourne (1915–1977) worked night shifts at the General Electric Company.

Osbourne is the elder brother of three older sisters, Jean, Iris, and Gillian, and the younger brother of two younger brothers, Paul and Tony. The family resided in a small two-bedroom house on Aston’s Lodge Road. Since elementary school, Osbourne has been known as “Ozzy.”

He was sexually abused by school bullies when he was 11 years old. As a youngster, Osbourne claimed to have tried suicide many times. He dropped out of school at the age of 15 and worked as a construction site laborer, trainee plumber, apprentice toolmaker, horn tuner at a car plant, and slaughterhouse worker. While still a child, he dabbled in crime and spent six weeks in Winson Green Prison after being unable to pay a fine for burgling a clothing store; his father refused to pay the amount to teach his son a lesson.

He was attracted to the theatre and participated in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado and HMS Pinafore school productions. He speaks with a “doubtful” Brummie accent. At the age of 14, after hearing the Beatles’ first chart-topping song, Osbourne became a devotee. He attributes his desire to become a musician to their 1963 song “She Loves You.” “I thought I was going to be a rock star for the rest of my life,” he said in the 2011 documentary God Bless Ozzy Osbourne.

Ozzy Osbourne Career:

In 1967, Osbourne formed his first band, Rare Breed, with Geezer Butler. After just two concerts, the band disbanded.

Osbourne and Butler formed another band, Earth, with guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward. In August 1969, they renamed the black band Sabbath and began to perform an intense blues sound with occult overtones.

In February 1970, the band released their self-titled first album, ‘Black Sabbath.’

The album garnered mixed reviews from reviewers but was a commercial smash.

In September 1970, spurred on by the success of their debut, the band delivered their second album, ‘Paranoid,’ within a few months. Numerous tracks on this album, notably ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Paranoid,’ became the band’s hallmark tunes.

‘Master of Reality,’ the band’s third album, was released in 1971 and reached the top 10 in the United States and the United Kingdom. It was the band’s first time including acoustic tracks on an album.

They released the album ‘Black Sabbath Vol. 4’ in 1972, in which they experimented with a heavier sound. The band experimented with a more delicate approach to music on this album, which was warmly appreciated by audiences.

The band expanded their symphonic setup for their fifth album, ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,’ released in 1973. This album sold in large quantities, but it also received excellent reviews from reviewers.

They issued ‘Sabotage’ (1975), ‘Technical Ecstasy’ (1976), and ‘Never Say Die’ (1977) during the following three years (1978).

By this time, Osbourne had developed a significant drug problem and was kicked out of the band in 1979.

He debuted as a solo artist in 1981 with the release of his first album, ‘Blizzard of Ozz.’
