Roderick David Stewart was born on January 10, 1945, in London, England. Stewart succeeded in soccer despite being born into a working-class family. He worked many odd occupations before his singing career took off, including working as a gravedigger.

Throughout the 1960s, Stewart was a member of a number of bands. When he joined the blues-influenced Jeff Beck Group in 1966, he experienced his first taste of success. The band toured the UK and the US and released two albums that were commercially successful. In 1969, he joined what became known as the Faces. 

Ron Wood, one of his bandmates, later joined the Rolling Stones. Stewart also performed as a solo artist, and his album Every Picture Tells A Story, released in 1971 and including the hit song “Maggie May,” was his first major solo success. Stewart’s sound got smoother and more pop as the decade progressed. His wild lifestyle and repeated romances with actresses and models have earned him a reputation. “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy,” from Blondes Have More Fun in 1978, was another great hit song for him.

In the 1980s, Stewart experienced further troubles. While Tonight I’m Yours was certified platinum in 1981, the albums that followed did not. However, he did end the decade on a positive note.
