According to rumors, Meyer aspires to become Notre Dame’s head coach one day, given his Catholic religion and frequent claims that it is his “dream job.”I will stay at Florida as long as they allow me,” Meyer told the Gainesville Sun in November 2009, when Charlie Weis’ future as Ireland’s national coach was in doubt. Finally, Brian Kelly of UC was chosen as the next head coach.

Meyer resigned following the team’s bowl game against Cincinnati on December 26, 2009. His choice was based on health concerns. On March 17, 2010, Meyer returned to his responsibilities as Gators head coach after announcing an extended hiatus the day before. Early Coaching Career:

While working as a defensive backs coach for the St. Xavier High School defensive backs during the 1985 season, Meyer met members of the Ohio State coaching staff while working as an intern for famed St. Xavier head coach Steve Rasso. As a graduate assistant at Ohio State under Earle Bruce, he served as the team’s tight end coach for two years before being promoted to assistant coach.

Greg Primus, a wide receiver at Colorado State, was one of the players he coached while at the school (3,096 yards and 17 TD in 3 years).  From 1990 through 1992, he racked up more than 1,000 receiving yards under Meyer’s guidance. He coached WR Bobby Brown at Notre Dame, where Brown amassed 1,521 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season. He tutored the future New England Patriots wide receiver David Givens while at Notre Dame in 2000.

Bowling Green:

Meyer became the first African-American to serve as head coach at Bowling Green State University in 2001. In his first season as head coach, he guided Bowling Green to an 8–3 record with a 56–21 victory against the University of Toledo Rockets, Bowling Green’s archrival.

In addition, he was recognised for his efforts by being selected the Mid-American Conference’s coach of the year. The next year, Bowling Green finished with a 9–3 record in conference play to wrap off the season. Meyer left Utah with a 17–6 overall record when he left for the University of Utah.

It was because of Josh Harris, the quarterback Meyer used, who was a perfect fit for his offense. In 2001, Harris passed for 1,022 yards and nine touchdowns in a non-conference game for the University of Tennessee Volunteers. The running back also tallied 600 yards and eight touchdowns. It wasn’t until the next season that he had 2,425 passing yards and 19 touchdowns with 737 running yards and 20 more scores. Similarly, Meyer would employ quarterbacks like Alex Smith and Tim Tebow in the same way the team used Harris.
